Cocoa, Professional Burlesque Dancer
Cocoa has been performing, teaching, choreographing and producing dance in the Kansas City area for over 17 years. In 2003 she graduated with distinction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, receiving her B.F.A. in dance. After graduating, she has had many opportunities to perform and choreograph for local companies such as Wylliams Henry Dance Theatre, City in Motion Dance Theater, aha! Dance Theater, and Reach, a Movement Collective and is currently an 8th year burlesque dancer with Burlesque Downtown Underground. She is also in her 6th year as Production Director of a “Modern Night the Folly”, Kansas City’s only adjudicated modern dance showcase. In addition to performing as a professional burlesque dancer for hire and choreographing or producing dance shows, Cocoa has been passionate about dance education for the past 14 years. She has taught various disciplines of dance in studios/schools across the area. From 2003-2006 she was assistant coach for the UMKC ROOs dance and cheer teams. In 2007-2009 she became the Dance Department head for the Kansas City Middle School of the Arts. She has also been a guest teacher/artist specializing in modern dance at UMKC’s Conservatory of Dance. In March of 2016 Cocoa embarked on her newest journey as co-owner of Liberation Dance Company, a competitive Studio residing in Olathe, Kansas.
