Madame MacKay, Professional Burlesque Dance Performer
In addition to being a professional burlesque dance performer for hire, Madame MacKay has performed professionally at the following Kansas City Theaters: The Kansas City Repertory Theatre, City Stage Theatre at Union Station, The Folly Theater, Starlight Theatre, The Civic Opera, Musical Theater Heritage, Princess Squid Productions, Theatre in the Park, Leawood Stage Co., The Barn Players, and others. She also danced en pointe for Hybrid in a featured role in performances of, “The Coppelia Project: A Clown Ballet”. She tours regionally as a featured dance performer (over the past five years consecutively) with El Monstero, The Pink Floyd Experience (St. Louis). MacKay holds a BFA in dance performance and a minor in theater, along with the academic Golden Key award from The University of Missouri, Kansas-City and currently serves on the UMKC Conservatory Alumni Board as well as on the Young Friends of the Conservatory Board. Her burlesque and other dance choreography has been performed at: The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland; The Exchange Dance Festival in Tulsa, OK; A Modern Night at The Folly, the Choreographer’s Festival in Lawrence, Musical Theater Heritage, Kansas City’s Dance in the Park, The Pitch Mastermind Awards, UMKC Conservatory shows (dance department, opera department), OCTA, The Barn Players, Leawood Stage Co., Minds Eye Theatre, and Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. MacKay has danced all her life and has studied in Kansas City at: Nallia’s School of Dance, Kansas City Dance Theatre Company, The Culture House, Legacy School of the Arts, and Kansas City Ballet. In NYC: Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, the Ailey School, Ballet Arts, Gibney Dance Center, and held a paid musical theatre internship with the Theatre Arts Center. MacKay has also studied ballet with Owen/Cox Dance Company, The Colorado Ballet in Denver, and at The Place in London, England with Raymond Chai. She has served as Artistic Director, choreographed and danced with Reach…a movement collective inc. for nine years and currently is the Artistic Director, choreographing and dancing with The Smith Project. With this company, she was awarded a two year Performance Artist Residency with Charlotte Street’s Urban Culture Project, “Best Outdoor Performance”, and spent a year with the resident dance company in the Unicorn Theatre on the Jerome Stage. In addition, she was a guest performer (2008-2010) with Storling Dance Theatre and has performed as a company member with the 940 Dance Company in Lawrence, Kansas and with Kacico Dance in Kansas City. Film credits include: the lead in the independent film “Dead End”, placing third in the KAN Film Festival in 2001; a featured dancer in “Fugue”, “The Water Nymph”, a music video by The Popsicles, and “Savage Love” by The Sexy Accident, as well as film shorts: “Suburban Bluff”, and “Summer of 69”. MacKay often works the local, regional and national commercial circuit including a national McDonalds spot. She is represented by Moxie Talent Agency, is an EMC candidate and currently trains at The Kansas City Ballet, Darling Yoga, and in Aerial arts and contortion at Lucia Performing Arts. Ms. MacKay also is the Producing Artistic Director, Group Choreographer, and a burlesque dance performer with Burlesque Downtown Underground, as well as the owner of Kansas City Burlesque LLC.
